The thing about Democracy

So because I come from a diverse background, I have diverse friends. Some are conservative and some are liberal. Some are old and some are young. Some are straight and some are gay. Some are rich and some are poor.

I love people who are different than me. I love them because I learn from them. I love them because I can share with them the knowledge that I have gained along my own personal journey. I enjoy conversations where different people do just that- share- their knowledge, their experiences, their fears. I love it when it happens with mutual respect and dignity.
It’s amazing how politics changes things.
This afternoon, I announced the work that I would be doing for these two campaigns via a semi-mass email to my closest friends and supporters (or so I thought). One of the people I respected most for our differences has just written to me to spew lies and deception. He did it rudely and he did it to piss me off. And it worked.
The good news is that when situations like that happen… I am able to use them to inspire myself to work harder. And that’s what I am doing. Sorry folks… love it or hate it… this is what I have to do. I understand if you have to do something different. More power to you! That’s the wonderful thing about democracy.
