I turned 25 yesterday. I am an official member of the “Quarter Century” club. I officially feel like when someone asks me my age and I say “I am 25″… that I sound a little more legit. I feel like you should take me a little more seriously.
I did the opposite of take things seriously yesterday. I went to Disneyland. I hung out with Minnie Mouse and rode the Pirates of the Caribbean (my fave). I was spoiled by my friends who brought me Napa Rose and wined me and dined me like it was their JOB.
I wore my fancy new Obama hoodie to the park. It was fun to walk around the Happiest Place on Earth and see that others were wearing their favorite “Obama-Gear” as well. Whether it be a button or a t-shirt or a hoodie… those of us that have this Obama Bug are wearing it proudly and loudly. I feel part of a community. I feel part of a movement.
And in moments like that… I remember why I am doing this. I remember that what Barack Obama has accomplished, whether he wins this election or not, is getting people invested. The old, the young, the black, the white, the rich, the poor… they care and they are registering to vote and they are reading the news and they are sharing their favorite articles on Facebook. And I love it. I love being a part of it. I love feeling like I am making a difference.
Thank you, Barack. Thank you for making me feel like I am part of something bigger and more important. Thank you for making me proud to be an American again.
