Kicking into High Gear

Today is a big day for me. You see- today is the first day of the next six weeks of my life.

I officially packed up my spiffy West Hollywood apartment room with the help of my BFF Extraordinaire, Patty. This mainly consisted of clearing dusty shelves for my subleaser (welcome to Cali, Tara!), windexing windows, and finding random pieces of clothing I didn’t remember I owned. We then loaded six weeks worth of clothing, my two little pups, and gifts for my parents into my little blue Dodge Neon and I drove her up the state of CA to my folks house.

The silhouettes along the Pacheco Pass always mesmerize

Today is the day I start my traveling journey on behalf of Barack Obama. Today is the first day of approximately six weeks that I will be away from my home base of Los Angeles and on the road for CHANGE. And though I have made this journey up the coast of CA many times, it felt different today. As I set the cruise control, smelled the familiar scents of Harris Ranch and Gilroy- it was with a renewed spirit. As I drove through my favorite part of the state- the Pacheco Pass- and saw my favorite image of trees in silhouette along the rolling hills- I appreciated the opportunity to be on this journey even more. There are a couple of amazing things to consider about this time:

I am doing this for free- volunteering my time. – I am being independently supported by my peers. My travel sponsor Aleks (whom I was connected with through www.travelforchange.org) took care of my plane ticket to Ohio. My dear friend Jill is taking care of my travel back. My other dear friend, and former boss, Peter will be housing me while I am in Columbus.

The Check issue for "Change"

My friend Patty (told you she was extraordinary) is sponsoring my rental car. To the right, you’ll see her check- written out “For___ CHANGE.” Hell, even my Canadian Uncle Charlie sent me a check! These people inspire me.

It’s also just an incredible time in history. The DOW was down another 500 points today, making it the lowest it’s been in 5 years. The financial markets of foreign countries are failing- include the first National Bankruptcy in history for the entire COUNTRY of Iceland. An entire COUNTRY went Bankrupt?!?! Iran is trying to annihilate the State of Israel. The rest of the world looks down upon Americans. The Quality of Life is diminishing before our eyes. Yet still- there is Hope. We call him Obama.

I am so excited to embark on this journey. I am so excited to have the support that is making this journey possible.

HERE WE GO!!!
