Very True. Everyone reading this… my Dad overcame these very same obstacles, after spending MUCH more time as a smoker than I did. He simply quit one day, without ever needed to leave his home or his family.

Congrats for reaching this milestone in your life. It will have such a huge impact on your life later on.

I stopped smoking, partly because I saw how my girlfriend’s father is suffering from his smoking habit. He had a heart attack 6 months ago because the nicotine broke off the cholesterol in his heart and caused a blockage*. Since then, he’s hardly been allowed to move – if he runs for about 30 seconds he’ll probably have another heart attack. All of that brought it very close to home for me.

So well done for beating the addiction – its a big deal.

*er, this may be a very sketchy laymans version of what happened medically!

Well told Ms. Eagle. It’s helpful for both smokers and non-smokers alike to understand the journey of addiction and letting go. Thanks for sharing your story and your positive attitude about the future. I’m glad travel has the ability to be life changing in more than one way, especially in this case.
